« The six artists in this project explore the accessible, intimate and subversive nature of the publication as a printed object, a form of expression and a place of dissemination to make it an alternative exhibition space – an art exhibition, but also a self.
Whether their approach is fictional, autobiographical, militant or all of these at the same time, the artists unfold and deploy their imagination and their lived experience in the margins of their story(s). This margin, which they implement through the pages of their zines and their books, is the political site of the manifestations of subjectivities which have the power to act on the world. The gray areas and the extent of the possibilities of the off-camera – a fertile, abundant and living place – are experienced and claimed by these artists who propose to step out of the frame to see and be differently. It is through their agency that the spirit of resistance that drives their self-publishing practice is affirmed. » – Janick Burn
