FEMS

Co-creation of a zine with a group of 10 young people (FEMS collective)

The “We Too, We Can” program at the Rosemont Children’s Oasis is intended to deconstruct gender stereotypes for girls aged 9 to 13. Since the beginning of the program, a group of 10 girls, under their collective name, Les Fems, have produced a podcast of the same name and a short film and set up a safe space recounting their learning during the project.

Together, we explored various forms of expression and particularly the zine format to create one that reflects the group. The Fems practiced engraving, vegetable dyeing, spontaneous writing, the creation of collaborative micro-narratives and in the process became aware of issues relating to “fast fashion”, the diktats of the fashion industry and issues related to body image.

This collaborative project spread over 10 weeks was a real laboratory of experimentation where friendship and presence made it possible to catalyze everyone’s daily life into moments of sharing, commitment and self-expression.
